Defining a Menu

You must define a menu before you can add items to it.

  • Login to the WordPress Dashboard.
  • From the 'Appearance' menu on the left-hand side of the Dashboard, select the 'Menus' option to bring up the Menu Editor.
  • Select Create a new menu at the top of the page
  • Enter a name for your new menu in the Menu Name box
  • Click the Create Menu button.
  • Your new custom menu has now been defined.
  • Don't forget to save the menu once you finish.

 

Adding Items to a Menu

On the left-hand side, click Pages to see your available content. Simply tick the boxes next to the pages you want to include and click the Add to Menu button. If a page is missing from the "Most Recent" list, just click the View All tab to see everything you’ve created.

Once added, your pages will pop up in the right-hand column under Menu Structure, where you can begin organizing them.

Add blog post category archive pages to your custom menu

Open the Categories section in the left column and click the View All tab to see your full list. Tick the boxes for the categories you want to feature, then click Add to Menu to move them into your structure.

Order of the Menu

Drag each items into the order you prefer and drop it.

 

Multilevel Menu

To make one menu item a subordinate of another, you need to position the 'child' underneath its 'parent' and then drag it slightly to the right.

  1. Position the mouse over the 'child' menu item.
  2. Whilst holding the left mouse button, drag it to the right.
  3. Release the mouse button.
  4. Repeat these steps for each sub-menu item.
  5. Click the Save Menu button in the Menu Editor to save your changes.

 

Deleting a Menu Item

  1. Locate the menu item that you want to remove in the menu editor window
  2. Click on the arrow icon in the top right-hand corner of the menu item/box to expand it.
  3. Click on the Remove link. The menu item/box will be immediately removed.
  4. Click the Save Menu button to save your changes.
