Step 1: Update WordPress
Divi utilises the latest WordPress hooks and functions to maintain peak performance and security. Running an outdated version of WordPress isn't just a performance drag—it’s a major security risk.
Action: Go to Dashboard > Updates and ensure you are running the most recent version of WordPress before proceeding.
Step 2: Install the Parent Divi Theme
A child theme is an extension, not a standalone product. You must have the core Divi Parent Theme installed and activated first.
Action: Upload and activate
Divi.zipfrom your Elegant Themes account if you haven't already.
Step 3: Upload & Activate the Child Theme
Now that the parent theme is ready, you can install your specific Child Theme to safely handle your customisations.
- Go to Appearance> Themes> Add Themes
- Upload your new theme on the next step
Select your
child-theme.zipfile and click Install Now.

Once WordPress has unpacked and installed the theme, just click to activate it.

Step 4: Installing & Activating your Plugns
After activating the theme, you’ll see a notification at the top of your dashboard prompting you to install required or recommended plugins. These tools are essential for unlocking the full functionality of your new layout.
